Battle School

Overview:
Since the 1950s The Salvation Army in British Columbia has offered intense, spiritual training for young Salvos and other warriors for Jesus. Battle School began in William’s Lake in the 1990s, soon followed by the War College in Vancouver. Now, Battle School is back and better than ever! Battle School is led by the leaders of the War College and operated in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. This new incarnation of Battle School downloads the DNA of Primitive-Salvationism into keen young warriors from around the world.
Why?
The great Salvation War is raging and you can’t wait until you have a degree or a fancy job before you are ready to start fighting. You need to get trained up now.
In this war you need to know how to fast, pray, read the Bible, evangelise, kick out demons and listen to God. This crash course will rush you through the important stuff as you live in simplicity and community amongst poverty and injustice.
Dates & Times
Battle School begins July 6 2009: 13 00
Battle School deploys August 2, 2009 13 00
Training Ground
Battle School is operated in the poorest postal code in Canada: V6A, Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. This neighbourhood is filled with open drug use, crime and the injustice of prostitution. There are souls suffering from loneliness, guilt and rampant sin. Incarnational warfare, including your food and lodging, is the most distinctive part of Battle School. You will be placed in a Christian community and live with other students. You will be trained in our Command Centre and deployed throughout the streets, parks and alleyways of the neighbourhood.
Program
We’re talking about a huge mission experience without the big price tag [thousands of dollars]. The training is hands on work combined with theory modules that cover:
- Spiritual Disciplines [grow your roots deep into God’s love]
- Leadership [influence others to take hold of God and his world-saving mission]
- Evangelism [introducing people from all walks of life to Jesus]
Deployments
Responsibilities and ministries include:
- Harbour Light food line – lovingly serve the poor in the heart of the DTES
- Re:cre8 – our street level café
- War Room – a 24-7 prayer room: a strategically placed setting for intimacy and war.
- Air Force – praying through the neighbourhood asking for some help from above.
- Ground Force – practical, dirt under your fingernails missions work.
- Movie on Trial – hone your critical thinking and spiritual perception with film.
