I would particularly ask that you urge Corps Officers to forward this email to their soldiers and also to print the following message in Corps bulletins.

SONGBOOK SURVEY
The Salvation Army Songbook has many functions — but more than anything else it serves to keep us connected to a real and valid Salvation Army identity: our doctrine, theology, spiritual formation and mission. Hymnologists tell us that the acceptable lifespan of a denominational songbook is 20-25 years. The Salvation Army has been within that range with each edition of our songbook. IHQ has recently established a committee to develop a new edition of the songbook. You can contribute to this project by completing a brief online survey. We need your response by April 18. Thank you for your help! The survey is found at:

To Add:
Well, I put down three of my favourite Worship Leaders, salvos…we’ll see where that goes!
Keep Wesley, Pearson, Booth… Add, Matt Redman, Misty Edwards, Justin Rizzo, Luke Wood, Delirious? Upton, Laeger, Tom Freeman, Hawk, Court/Strickland
HI – great idea for a survey. I blogged on this months ago and Andrew Clark from Scotland provides a detailed list of additions and subtractions – hundreds of songs. I’m not going to attempt that.
However, broadstroke – I think we should add salvo songs only. If people want to sing Matt Redman (and who doesn’t?) they can, but MR doesn’t need us spreading his words around. Let’s use the limited pages we’ll have for great salvos songs that carry our DNA.
I hope that territorial music types are pulling together these songs. AND, this can’t be a matter of popularilty because we have been mostly unsuccessful in spreading songs beyond territorial boundaries (think quickly – in the last 25 years what salvos songs are widely sung in your territory that were written in another? I can think of two – ALL THAT I AM and MOVE HOLY SPIRIT – and maybe I SURRENDER- that’s it). And yet we all know that there are fantastic songs that are used in different territories to the glory of God.
God help the framers of the new song book.
The canadian website, only allows for three additions, three deletions and three keepers.
(I wonder if I can log in multiple times?)
I’m with ya Court – lets add only salvo tunes
